Spam Filters
Get familiar with e-mail spam filters, what they do and how to enable them.
A spam filter is a software app that’s installed on a POP3/IMAP mail server and ‘scans’ all inbound email messages to impede any undesirable ones from entering a given inbox. Several examples of such email messages would be: offers for pills or money, fake bank statements or email attachments that contain malware sent with the idea to damage your computer. Email filters normally examine the content of an email and if they detect certain keywords or other suspicious content, they either delete the email or re-send it to the Junk/Spam folder instead of the Inbox folder. Some web hosting providers mix their own filters with up-to-date databases from spam-monitoring organizations, so as to ensure better safety for their customers. Such databases contain patterns, mail server IPs and other info about spam emails recently detected by these organizations.

Spam Filters in Hosting
Our hosting servers use one of the best anti-spam filters out there. It’s called SpamAssassin and is available with each shared hosting plan, so if you host your domains with our company, you can select one of the five levels of protection that the filter offers for any email account that you have here. You can accomplish this with just 2 clicks of the mouse from the Email Manager section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel that is used to manage all hosting accounts. SpamAssassin analyzes the header field and the content of every email, gives it a spam score and then proceeds based on the level that you’ve opted for. Every email account can have a different setting and you can select if the messages that the anti-spam filter considers as spam should be erased or redirected to another email address where you can view them at a later time, so as to prevent erasing a genuine email message. Switching to some other level or deactivating the protection is also really easy.
- Spam Filters in Semi-dedicated Hosting
In case you reach the decision to make use of the email service that comes with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting, you can keep all unasked-for email messages out of your mailbox by activating the 5-level anti-spam protection service that we provide with every plan. This can be done through the feature-rich Email Manager section of the hosting Control Panel and we use the advanced SpamAssassin email filter to make sure that we offer the best possible protection for our clients. You can have a different anti-spam level for each mailbox and you can select if the filtered emails should be deleted or forwarded to another email address where you can review them at a later point in time so as to make sure that you will not omit authentic messages. Switching to a different protection level or disabling the anti-spam protection is also easy and requires a few clicks. - Spam Filters in Semi-dedicated Hosting
